Description:While cannabis production, distribution and possession remain illegal at the federal level, many states have relaxed prohibitions specific to those states, in essence legalizing it at those lower levels. Whether an insurance professional agrees on principle as to the substance’s legality, one cannot ignore that there are many insurance concerns regarding cannabis. Risks remain throughout the many levels of bringing cannabis to the final user, including risks pertaining to planting, growing, harvesting, transporting, storing, processing, displaying and selling. Insurance agents are being approached regularly to provide risk management for the numerous levels of bringing the substance to market.
This cutting-edge class will explore many levels of cannabis production, as well as touch on the legality of the substance. Class attendees will leave this class with a better understanding of where the insurance risks lie within the cannabis industry and how to properly insure those risks. The class does not attempt to, in any manner, subvert any federal, state or local laws applicable to cannabis production or the retail sale of cannabis.
Class instructor Summer Jenkins serves as the Executive Director of Cannabis Insurance Wholesalers, a specialty division of One General Agency.
